How to make tote

Probably not the best way but this is how I made the tote in the previous post after a few trials - basically similar to how you would make a basic square tote with lining.

Step 1: Cut fabric - 2 pieces outer, 2 pieces lining and 2 pieces interfacing if required. The shape is a combination of a rectangle and then the curve handle part at the top.



Step 2: With right sides facing, sew all straight sides of the outer fabric. Repeat for lining fabric living a gap for turning.



Step 3: Put outer and lining together - right sides facing.



Step 4: Sew the curve side of the handle part. Repeat for other side of the curve.



Step 5: Turn over bag through the gap left in Step 2. Turn out the corners at both sides.




Step 6: Sew down the corners.



Step 7: This is not shown in the picture (because I only realise this after the bag is finished) but this is when you should sew down the lining by sewing on the curve edges.

Then only insert the handle parts and sew them on.




Step 8: Hand stitch to close the gap left inside.




And there you go, the finished bag:





Now that I have finished it, I don't think it is really my style. Furthermore it looks like such a summertime bag for picnics. So, it shall be my yarn storage for now.

I think I shall make another one but in a longish shape - so I can tote books.
