The Market

First market
Well, the market is over and done. Big thanks to Pip for dropping by.
I didn't sell a lot - made just enough to cover the rental fees plus a bit but I am happy. I had some bags, owls, pins, birdies, 3 book covers, 3 Woozylets, a big elephant and some mini pears on the table.

First market
The bunnies and owls seem quite popular with kids, to my surprise (the guy says this is proof I am a big kid). A number of kids found it amusing to re-arrange and name the owls :) These didn't translate into sales, but is was interesting to see them so fascinated by the owls. A sweet girl asked whether I teach people how to sew and that made my day to think that someone would want to learn stitching from me (I think if my mum read this she would be choking on her coffee).

Woozylets by kwoozy
My sales were mostly owls. Towards the end of the day, a lady came and bought the grey bunny plush. This also made my day because the plush is my own thing and it's great when people buy your thing. The owls are great and although I gave them poppy eyes - really they are a traditional Japanese pattern and credit should go to the Japanese guy/girl who created the pattern centuries ago. None of the other stuff sold. I am keeping a bag for myself and my number one loyal non-paying customer (i.e. my sister) just ordered half of the lot. And I am putting some of the other stuff at Mikes (thank you Pip).

The negative part: It is really tiring preparing for a market. The day itself is not, but the days before staying late stitching are. So, enough of stitchiness from me for a while.

All in all, I am glad I did it. Another thing off my list of things to try :) It's an enjoyable experience and I learn a lot. I have to say the people there are really great and helpful. The regulars there told me it's the sort of market where you need to be there for the long term. So I might try again next time. So if you are crafty and happen to think about trying a market - take it easy and go for it!

I think your work is delightful. I've started to make totes, plushies and decorations on my Vans shoes for a couple years now and I was just wondering, what's your favorite material for plushes and what do you use for the plush inside? I admire your work and hope that I can purchase something soon. <3

Your stuff looks really great! I'm so sorry I didn't get to make it to your stall.

The stall looked great! I'm glad you enjoyed the experience as well. I guess it's true about having to be there for a few times before sales get really started. I guess just keep on trying - you already got quite some interest, didn't you?

I think your things look fantastic (I love those pears and would have bought one myself had I even been in the same country!).

I really feel for you on the sales front - I had a similar experience with a Christmas fair - it's hard when the enjoyment you get, and emotional investment you put into making things doesn't eventually equate to sales...it all makes it seem a bit pointless for a day or two...but I found that feeling went away very quickly the minute I started making something else.

justine: favourite material is : anything soft and cotton! i would love to use 100% linen but they are very hard to find here..

the insides: i use polyfill. i think cotton will be easier to sculpt but again i don't know where to get them here.

michelle (rabbitto_bunny): thanks!

barbara: you are the best! thank you my dear friend.

sara: thank you! and thanks for coming by too.

florence: you are very wise! i think it was a good experience to set up a stall. it's interesting to observe peole too.

Hi! Just popping out of hiding....good on you for trying out a market! It's true that they are very hard work, but perhaps think of them as another way to get exposure of your wares instead of trying to make sales. A lot of small retailer who don't know about the blogging world usually trawl markets for new products to put into their shops.

I really love your works. I love the stall too, it looks great!I wish I live in the same country, so I can visit your stall..
I just started to make flannel dolls, but haven't think of selling my works, I don't know the market here in Indonesia yet.
I tried to make some owl based on your creations too..You inspired me :-)

ginned cotton is very hard to sculpt it packs so hard it breaks needles.
